The silicon computing development team is seeking passionate, driven, and intellectually curious computer/electrical engineers to deliver premium-quality designs once considered impossible. Our team is involved in numerous projects within Microsoft developing custom silicon for a diverse set of systems ranging from traditional computing solutions to artificial intelligence and augmented reality. We are responsible for delivering cutting-edge, custom CPU and SoC designs that can perform complex and high-performance functions in an extremely efficient manner.


  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related degree
  • 3+ years of experience working on pre or post silicon functional verification and validation of computing elements such as CPUs, caches, PCIe controllers, subsystems, or SoCs
  • Strong/Advanced C programming.
  • Basic Python programming.
  • Strong understanding of computer architecture and micro-architecture. Including:
    • Cache hierarchies
    • Memory and I/O subsystems
    • Instruction execution and pipelining
  • Experience with multi-processor/thread programming – critical sections, communication techniques, synchronizations, etc.
  • Familiarity with GNU/LLVM tool chains

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with pseudo-random code generation programming.
  • Experience with Linux device driver programming.
  • Strong Embedded Systems/Bare-metal programming.
  • Experience programming and interacting with I/O devices via Linux and/or bare-metal.
  • Experience with pre- and/or post-silicon functional validation of computing elements such as CPUs, GPUs, caches, PCIe controllers, subsystems, or SoCs.
  • Exceptional debug skills – ability to root cause issues in software and hardware.
  • Strong GNU/LLVM tool chain knowledge.
    • Understanding of compile internals – optimizations, primitives, intrinsics, built-ins, etc.
  • Familiarity with common industry ISAs.
  • Familiarity with common cache coherency protocols.

In this role, you will:

  • Work as part of an agile team to develop software used for verifying SoCs.
  • Develop software to stress the inner workings of the SoC designs, utilizing detailed knowledge of the SoC microarchitecture.
  • Create new algorithms and utilize industry standard algorithms to find hardware/logic/RTL flaws.
  • Work with teams across pre-silicon and post-silicon environments to:
    • Gather requirements and create software development plans.
    • Assess customer test plans and create test content based on test plans.
  • Own critical-path software used by a large customer base.
