At Reality Labs our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are currently seeking a Plasma Process Engineer to join our team, whose mission is to deliver state-of-the-art Waveguide Technologies for consumer near-to-eye displays at our research and development facilities. The position is full-time, requiring a Masters or PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Plasma Engineering, or similar degree. Candidates must have direct experience working in a nanofabrication environment with ICP/CCP reactive ion etch chambers, or similar plasma material modification equipment. Successful candidates must be comfortable working in a dynamic, cross-functional team and exhibit excellent communication skills.
Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a BS degree in Physics, Material Science, Chemistry, Plasma Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
Experience with inductively or capacitively coupled RF plasma sources and related semiconductor manufacturing processes.
Experience troubleshooting complicated technical issues.
Detail-oriented with critical thinking, structured problem solving, and practical application of Design of Experiments (DOE).
Demonstrated experience using computer applications, including data analysis tools, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software (e.g. JMP, MATLAB, Tableau, Excel, Minitab).
Demonstrated experience working effectively and efficiently with diverse teams, inclusive of internal and external partners.
Collaborative and dynamic environment experience.
Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Own the development and optimization of new plasma etch processes to meet build specifications in support of near-eye optical components on pilot scale tools.
Work with integration and researchers cross functionally to understand roadmaps, process flow, inflection points, requirements, and business issues/challenges.
Implement statistical process control methods & own yield improvement pareto within sector.
Drive process development to improve product critical parameter.
Identify key process metrics and understand relationships between sector metrics and component performance.
Develop Design of Experiments (DOE) to quantify process window and characterize process parameter responses.
Serve as the tool owner and operational expert, develop Standard-Operation-Procedure documentation, safety protocols, and train operations team.
Partner with operations and engineering team to optimize productivity and efficient execution of experiments.
Develop specification documents, engage with suppliers, coordinate installation, and drive qualification of new tools.
Communicate effectively with both management, peers, and external partners.
Maintain a safety-first work environment.
A Masters or PhD degree in the field of Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, Plasma engineering, or similar degree.
2+ years direct experience with plasma etch and surface metrology processes in fabricating near-eye optical elements.
Direct experience in root cause diagnostics of unknown/unexpected anomalies with structured problem solving methods.
2+ years Semiconductor industry experience.
2+ years of experience fabricating optical components for near-eye displays.
Advanced knowledge of standard nanofabrication technologies including lithography, etch, deposition, cleans, metrology, and materials.
