At Reality Labs Research (RLR), our goal is to explore, innovate, and design user interface technologies that will drive the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a Research Scientist Intern with experience conducting HCI User Research, leveraging knowledge in the fields of haptics, human factors, cognitive science, and interaction design. As a UX Research Intern, you will focus on uncovering, developing, and evaluating novel interactions and experiences with specific focus on haptic experiences. You will be working with world-leading collaborators and mentors in the AR/VR, haptics, sensing, interaction design, and HCI fields.

Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year. This position is based in Redmond, Washington.

Available projects may include, but are not limited to:

– Embodied interactions within and across realities

– Multi-modal AR/VR/MR interactions and I/O explorations

– AR/VR/MR collaborative experiences


Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD in the field of human-computer interaction, cognitive science, human factors, interaction design, or similar.

3+ years of experience conducting mixed-methods research.

Portfolio featuring past user research projects featuring AR/VR and/or haptic related projects.

Interpersonal skills: cross-group collaboration and cross-culture collaboration.

Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.


Plan and execute cutting-edge mixed method research for novel input interactions in AR/VR with focus on haptic experiences.

Prototyping in Unreal Engine (both C++ and blueprints).

Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and designers across disciplines to solve complex problems and evaluate the effectiveness of developed solutions.

Additional Requirements(额外要求)

Familiarity with AR/VR technologies and literature.

Experience with Unreal Engine.

Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as CHI, ISMAR, UIST, IEEE VR, IEEE Transactions on Haptics, Smart Haptics, World Haptics.

Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op.
