The Meta RL Display and Optics team focuses on moving the state-of-art display and optical technologies forward for Meta AR/VR products, which gives people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. The team is responsible for technology development and maturation, component design, novel manufacturing processes and metrology development, and system integration of display and optics for all Meta AR/VR products.
The VROE (VR Optical Engineering) team is looking for a creative optical systems engineer to develop and lead new optical modules for Meta products. The successful candidate will lead the development of optical coating for the mass production of complex optical systems within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will work cross-functionally with Lens designer, mechanical, display, optical system, and other optics teams to ensure the performance and realization of optical products.
BS or MS Degree in Material Science, Applied Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or related field.
5+ years of experience in developing novel thin-film process solutions.
Experience with optical film design software (e.g. Essential Macleod, Optilayer and TF calc.).
Experience and knowledge of thin-film characterization techniques (e.g. coating stress characterization, ellipsometry, FTIR, XRD, SEM, EDX, RBS, and SIMS).
Work cross functionally to define, develop and deploy new optical coating technology for optical components.
Lead optical coating development projects: design novel thin-film coating structure to meet product specification and proto-typing, and develop novel thin-film deposition process solutions to fulfill the thin-film coating design.
Work effectively with a diverse, interdisciplinary group of researchers & engineers across teams to deliver the coating solutions into final VR products.
Drive failure analyses (FA) and design of experiments (DOEs) to reach design solutions and corrective actions.
Develop and optimize the process and equipment for optical coating performance, yield, quality, reliability, and ramp the new equipment/process into full mass production.
5+ years hands-on experience in multiple conventional thin film deposition technologies (thermal and electron-beam evaporation, sputtering, chemical vapor deposition) and thorough understanding of the physics and practical mechanics of these processes.
Experience in high volume manufacturing.
Experience in developing and manufacturing high volume display, automotive, eye-glasses, or solar cell and products.
Solid understanding of thin film fundamental design theory and material properties.
Knowledge of statistical method and experience in data analysis with tools such as MATLAB, JMP, Python, or other mathematical softwares.
