Meta AR/VR Job | Applied Research Scientist – Computational Photography (PhD)

Reality Labs is seeking an Applied Research Scientist to join the Computational Photography team. In that team, we design software to augment the capabilities of cameras, improving photos//videos using algorithms applied either at the time of capture or in post-processing. We develop efficient techniques for processing camera captures (e.g., HDR, burst, auto), improving image quality (e.g., noise reduction, resolution, auto enhancement), 3D/depth effects on photos as well as on videos.
In this role, you will be researching and developing imaging algorithms, methods, or experiences from early research concepts to products such as Meta’s AR/VR/wearable/future devices. This could make use of efficient, innovative deep learning models that fit on memory-constrained devices or via traditional imaging algorithms implemented in C++ or GPU shaders. Individuals are expected to be experts in research areas relatable to Computer Vision, Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Image Processing, Image Understanding, Computer Graphics, AR/VR, or Computational Photography.
Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Ph.D. degree in the field of Computer Vision, Deep Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Graphics, or similar.
3+ years experience in deep learning, convolutional neural networks with frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
3+ years of software development and debugging experience using programming languages such as C++ and Python.
Experience in Computer Vision, Deep Learning, and Computer Graphics.
Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
Enable enhanced images, videos and media experiences for Meta devices via innovative applications of Deep Learning, Computer Vision, and Computational Photography techniques to problems such as Image Denoising, Super-Resolution, HDR, Depth Estimation, Saliency Detection, Image Generation, Image Editing, Image Understanding, etc.
Work towards both short-term applied projects and long-term ambitious research goals, while identifying intermediate milestones.
Collaborate with other engineers and researchers across teams to develop experiments, prototypes, demos, and software libraries that advance the state-of-the-art in imaging systems.
Collaborate with product teams for the optimization and integration of algorithms.
Own the quality of your software and publish clean implementations.
Own the planning and costing of activities.
Contribute research that can be either applied to Facebook product development, or submitted for publication.
Experience with GPU programming frameworks and shader languages.
Experience with RAW imaging, Cameras, or ISP algorithms (e.g., demosaicing, 3A, AWB, AE, AGC).
Experience working with Computer Vision datasets.
Proven track record of software engineering, including shipping one or more products.
Co-authored publications at peer-reviewed Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, or Machine Learning conferences or journals (e.g., CVPR, SIGGRAPH, ICCV, ECCV, BMVC, etc.).
