We are looking for a Research Engineer to join our growing interdisciplinary team to help solve difficult problems at the intersection of auditory perception, spatial audio, room acoustics, hearing sciences, and signal processing. In this position, you’ll work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to build entirely new experiences which incorporate hardware design, new sensing technologies, computer vision, machine learning, and human/machine perception. You will focus on advancing the state-of-the-art of acoustic measurement, perceptual modeling, perceptual evaluation, and large scale audio data collection & analysis and will build systems and to demonstrate the future of audio experiences.
Master’s degree in a relevant technical field with 2+ years of industry experience in audio technology development, or equivalent combination of education and experience
3+ years experience in designing and performing audio acoustic experiments in controlled laboratory settings
3+ years of programming experience in MATLAB, Python, C/C++ or an equivalent language
Demonstrated experience of implementing audio signal processing algorithms and systems
Demonstrated experience of implementing machine-learning models for prediction, parameter estimation, or data analysis
Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Develop state-of-the-art methods and systems for audio measurement, post-processing, and analysis.
Design and implement methods and systems used to evaluate the subjective and objective performance of advanced audio algorithms, applying the end-to-end understanding of audio hardware and software subsystems.
Implement audio processing algorithms in MATLAB, C/C++, Python, Max/MSP, or equivalent.
Implement machine-learning models for audio applications.
Design and implement proof of concept systems for enabling and demonstrating new audio experiences with commercial AR/VR products and research audio hardware systems.
Collaborate with research scientists, user experience researchers, experience prototypers, hardware and software engineers to identify new areas of research, decide engineering requirements, devise tools and infrastructure in acoustics/DSP/ML, and provide acoustic engineering consultation.
Demonstrated expertise in MaxMSP, Pure Data, Audio Weaver, JUCE, or other audio prototyping frameworks
Demonstrated experience in implementing or designing perceptual and objective audio quality metrics
Demonstrated experience with large-scale automated data collection and analysis
Demonstrated experience designing and setting up acoustic laboratory spaces
Demonstrated experience with embedded and/or real-time audio signal processing
Demonstrated experience of implementing machine-learning models for audio applications
Demonstrated experience with audio algorithms for hearing correction and enhancement
Demonstrated experience with audio algorithms for spatial audio capture and render
Experience integrating multiple technologies (audio, motion capture, cameras, etc.) into reliable robust experiential prototypes
Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional, inter-disciplinary environment
