Reality Labs Research is looking for a Data Capture Systems Engineer to help create state-of-the-art capture systems to revolutionize photorealistic telepresence in virtual reality, thus enabling the ability to interact with anyone, anytime, anywhere. We have made some important advances, but it will take a team with a wide spectrum of skills to fully realize this goal. The ideal candidate is a person with demonstrated experience in rapid development of fully functioning hardware prototypes which integrate multiple electrical, mechanical, and software components.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
Understanding of cameras and lenses: setup, maintenance, tuning, calibration, distortion, color balance, lighting.
Understanding of depth sensing, multi sensor calibration and synchronization.
Experience with computer network architecture on Linux and Windows.
Experience with hardware engineering, with mechanical and electronics systems skills.
Organizational and planning skills, and attention to detail.
Manage our research facility overall data acquisition capabilities: design, implementation and maintenance of multi-sensor systems, including sensor selection, sensor mounts, system calibration, lighting design, power distribution, synchronization and triggering system.
Drive system level requirements for capture systems.
Translate prototypes into production level systems, checking in with researchers to ensure that the requirements for the capture system are clearly laid out.
Collaborate with researchers and other engineers across multiple disciplines to discuss, develop and optimize designs for prototypes.
Support research and exploration of new sensors and combinations to deliver the next generation of capture systems.
Oversee hardware and system integration, data transfer, pipeline tools development to improve processing workflows.
Drive R&D and stay on top of new technology.
Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
Experience with high-end VFX and/or video game motion capture production pipeline and systems (e.g. Vicon, OptiTrack), both hardware and software components.
Experience managing hardware or rapid prototyping projects.
Experience working with a cross-disciplinary team of researchers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, optical engineers, and software engineers.
Experience with virtual or augmented reality systems.
Experience with protocol design, specification, and implementation.
