At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate, and design novel input devices and user interfaces for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are seeking an Optical Scientist Intern with experience in optical imaging system design and hands-on prototyping who can work with a team of researchers to design, integrate, and evaluate prototype wearable optical sensing systems for next generation computing platforms in our Burlingame workplace.
Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year. This position is based in Burlingame, California.
Qualifications(岗位要求)
Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in the field of optics, robotics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, human-computer interaction, bioengineering, physics, or related fields.
3+ years research experience in optics (geometric, physical, diffuse) using lasers, image sensors, time-of-flight, camera and imaging.
Demonstrated ability to build proof-of-concept optical systems and evaluate performance.
Experience in Python, MATLAB, or C++ for acquisition, signal processing, data analysis, and real-time visualization.
Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Description(岗位职责)
Design, develop, and validate new optical sensing and tracking systems to advance AR/VR interaction technologies for processing user input.
Collaborate with the multidisciplinary research and engineering team to prototype hardware and software solutions and run experiments to advance the project.
Research next generation wearable optical sensing devices with an emphasis on both fundamental theory and physical embodiment of the new concepts.
The type of work should be publishable research that appears in top-tier HCI journals or at leading international conferences.
Additional Requirements(额外要求)
Direct experience in designing, debugging, and validating optical imaging and electrical systems for human-computer interaction.
Experience with digital image processing from a camera in real-time.
Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as CHI, UIST or similar.
Demonstrated research experience involving defining problems, exploring solutions, analyzing and presenting results.
Demonstrated experience via an internship or working in a multidisciplinary team.
Experience with Zemax or similar optical design software.
Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op.
