The Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) Research Team brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of AR and VR, which together will become as universal and essential as smartphones and personal computers are today. Immersive AR and VR experiences rely on rich, multi-sensory feedback, in which haptics will likely play a critical role. In this internship role, you will work with computational haptics researchers to investigate, design, and develop haptic rendering strategies to compute and reproduce feedback for one or more touch sensations we often experience in our daily lives. Examples include conveying shape, compliance, surface texture, friction, material properties, and potentially other qualities, through control of a variety of mechanical haptic actuators.

Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.

Qualifications(岗位要求)

Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD in the field of computer science, mathematics, robotics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, neuroscience, or related, with haptics as a focus.

Strong foundational knowledge of methods and algorithms presently used for haptic feedback computation.

Experience with physical or spatial (3D) computation and programming in C++.

Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.

Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Description(岗位职责)

Understand and analyze state of the art haptic rendering methods to determine strategies that would fit the team’s use cases and needs.

Develop prototypes real-time haptic rendering algorithms capable of generating high-fidelity haptic feedback for target experiences.

Collaborate with researchers across multiple disciplines and teams to develop an integrated experience demonstrating key results.

Synthesize research results to be published in a top-tier academic conference or journal.

Additional Requirements(额外要求)

Proven track record of strong interdisciplinary research collaborations and delivery of research prototypes.

Experience working with commercially-available or research prototype haptic interfaces.

Publication track record in one or more of the following conferences or journals: IEEE Transactions on Haptics, World Haptics Conference, Haptics Symposium, SIGGRAPH, Symposium on Computer Animation, CHI, TEI, UIST.

Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship.
