At Reality Labs, we are developing the future of virtual and augmented reality where we envisioned mobile, lightweight AR/VR devices with very low power consumption. To achieve our vision, we need to be able to generate, transmit and store vast amounts of video, images, graphics, audio and other types of data in an extremely efficient fashion. You will be working with a small group of experts specialized in data compression to design end-to-end compression and streaming solutions for VR and AR. The position requires strong engineering capabilities to quickly prototype innovative solutions to challenging problems. Our goal is not just to harness the latest compression technologies, but also help push the limit of compression technology further. You will have chances to participate in the development of future compression technologies that not only benefit VR and AR, but also have an impact on Facebook as a whole or even across the industry.

Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.

Qualifications(岗位要求)

Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science, or a related field.

Strong foundation in Mathematics & Signal Processing.

Experience in image and video compression and processing.

Programming experience in C/C++, with algorithm design skills.

Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.

Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Description(岗位职责)

Study texture, image and video compression algorithms to assess overall complexity and impact on quality and power.

Build modeling software for custom compression algorithms.

Build a custom software toolkit to help develop, test and evaluate different compression algorithms.

Collaborate with the Silicon team to develop architecture specifications for custom compression engines.

Additional Requirements(额外要求)

Familiarity with texture, image and video compression standards (ATSC, H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, H.266/VVC, AV1, AV2 etc.) is a plus.

Coursework in compression.

Background in hardware architecture for signal processing applications.

Understanding of real-time computer graphics pipeline, GPU hardware and ASIC development.

Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op.
