Virtual Internship
Participation in the Research Internship Program requires that you are physically located in the United States or Canada for the duration of the internship.
Research Internships at Microsoft provide a dynamic environment for research careers with a network of world-class research labs led by globally-recognized scientists and engineers. Our researchers and engineers pursue innovation in a range of scientific and technical disciplines to help solve complex challenges in diverse fields, including computing, healthcare, economics, and the environment.
Our Mixed Reality and Computer Vision Team works on the frontiers of Computer Vision and Visual Learning to enable wearable devices connected to the Cloud provide physical and human augmentations of the real world for commercial and consumer scenarios. As an Intern in Mixed Reality/Computer Vision (Hololens) R&D you will work alongside passionate and talented scientists and engineers who are working to innovate and build ground-breaking technologies and products for human augmentation through Mixed Reality. You will conduct both fundamental and applied research in computer vision and visual learning under the supervision of Microsoft mentors, publish your results, build prototypes and demonstrations.

In addition to the qualifications below, you’ll need to submit a minimum of two reference letters for this position. Required Qualifications
- Must be accepted or currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science or related STEM field with a focus on Computer Vision, Deep Learning, Machine Learning, AI or a related field.
Participation in the Research Internship Program requires that you are physically located in the United States or Canada for the duration of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications
Ideal candidates would have one or more of the following qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to develop original research agenda.
- At least a year of research experience in computer vision, deep learning, machine learning, and AI methodology.
- Experience with open source tools such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, Caffe, etc.
- Publication(s) in top-tier conferences or journals in related fields (e.g., CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, NIPS, ICML, IJCV, PAMI, etc.).
- Strong communication and writing skills.
- Algorithmic problem solving and software development skills (C/C++, Python, etc.).

During the 12-week internship, students are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community. Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer.
