As a Material Engineer at Meta Reality Labs, you will be responsible for the designing, and productization of innovative materials that are core to delivering transformative experiences for next generation Meta’s AR products.

You will join a team that is working on radically new concepts and approaches required because of new constraints imposed by advanced AR/VR devices. For this role, you are expected to have a substantial foundation in conductive polymer chemistry, electrochemistry, as well as solvent interaction on a variety of material classes. You will be responsible for designing and guiding the chemistry and material team in synthesizing the organic molecules for optical application. We are looking for an individual that thrives in thinking outside the box, is able to drive and lead developing and pushing the state-of-the-art of optical materials and also works well in teams comprising a wide range of disciplines.

Based on a strong chemistry and material background, solid R&D methodology and a data-driven approach, ideal candidates should demonstrate experience through a proven track record of first authored publications and/or patents.


BS in material engineering, organic chemistry, chemistry, material science or related field with 5+ years experience or MS in organic chemistry, chemistry, material science or related field with 3+ years experience.

Experience with Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations (Gaussian, Quantum Espresso, VASP) and classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulations.

Experience in at least one of the following areas: conductive polymer synthesis, OLED organic material synthesis, battery chemistry and synthesis, electrochemistry.

Experience with Linux programming and Python/MATLAB scripting language.

Fluency in theory and execution of optical and material characterization techniques including Ellipsometry, XRD, SEM/EDS, DSC/TGA, GCMS, FTIR, UV/Vis Spectroscopy, and photoluminescence spectroscopy.

Motivated self-starter with experience working independently and to participate creatively in cross-functional collaborations.


Work with a multidisciplinary team in developing innovative electrochemical systems.

Independently plan and conduct simulations and work with experimentalists to help interpret spectroscopic results and guide the design of new organic materials.

Directly responsible for design, and development of the state-of-the-art material for optical device technologies in collaboration with the synthetic team.

Lead efforts to characterize the opto-electrochemical performance and stability of electrochemical systems.

Directly responsible for the development, optimization, productization and test of the functionality and reliability of the organic material based device.

Guide teams on material properties, material compatibility, and characterization.

Remove material and integration barriers from the path to commercialization.

Additional Requirements(额外要求)

PhD in material engineering, organic chemistry, chemistry, material science or related field.

5+ years experience in several of these areas: conductive polymer synthesis, OLED organic material synthesis, Battery chemistry and synthesis, electrochemistry.

Experience or knowledge in at least one of the following areas: (i) classical and/or ab initio molecular dynamics simulations of liquids and solids, (ii) advanced free energy simulation methods (e.g., constrained MD, Umbrella sampling), (iii) development of force fields, (iv) theoretical spectroscopy.

Experience functioning well in a fast-paced environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
