At Meta Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Optical Engineer to join our Optical Product Development team in FRL. In this role, you will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers to design, simulate, implement and debug the viewing optics for VR optical systems.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Expert knowledge in all skills listed following: 1. Complex optical system design and modeling, including tolerance analysis, 2. Sequential and non-sequential simulation, 3. Precision optics manufacturing, 4. Optical metrology and characterization
BS degree in optical engineering related technical disciplines with 5+ years of experience or advanced degree in optical engineering related technical disciplines with 3+ years of experience
Interpersonal experience to work with cross-functional teams.
Own end2end non-sequential simulation of viewing optics system. Define system requirements and identify root causes of optical artifacts, e.g., straylight, ghosting, etc.
Own non-sequential simulation of illumination scheme to inform equipment design and process optimization.
Collaborate with XFN teams to understand human visual perception and implement mitigations of optical artifacts, from design and technology development standpoints.
Build up system performance analysis and FACA workflow from components to system.
Build relationships with industry partners to deliver state-of-the-art optical systems into products.
Knowledge of optical system integration in high volume manufacturing environments.
Experience in opto-mechanical design and tolerance analysis.
