At Reality Labs (RL) within Meta, we’re developing the future of augmented and virtual reality. We are looking for an Audio Research and Engineering Operations Manager to join our multi-disciplinary research and engineering team and contribute to the overall efforts to gain a scientific understanding of audio and the ways audio can be integrated with human and machine perception, input, display technology, haptics, and optics – ultimately translating audio technologies into compelling AR and VR experiences for our users.
We are looking for a dynamic and driven candidate who is ideally adaptable and resilient, eager to attack unfamiliar problems with curiosity and tenacity, and able to use a light touch to find ways to help the team be more efficient. You will marshal efforts to provide world-class lab spaces, equipment, and resources used to enable research and engineering required to create the ultimate AR and VR audio experiences. Success in this role will require a relentless pursuit for excellence while evolving and maintaining overall team operations, communications, equipment, and personnel for multiple labs and team spaces. Relevant experience is important, but ultimately less so than your abilities.
3+ years of experience as an Operations Manager or Lab Manager at a technology company, research institution, or similar organization.
3+ years of experience in project and process management.
Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
A track record of planning, executing, and delivering results for complex and cross-functional technical projects.
Interpersonal and inter-team skills and experience navigating complex relationships between teams to drive solutions and unified plans.
Provide leadership and guidance for a growing team of technicians, analysts, and operations coordinators.
Develop and implement measurable improvements to the operational capacity of our research team and manage ongoing team processes including integration of new team members and scaling processes to fit with team’s evolution.
Own key cross-functional relationships on behalf of the team including facilities, labs, recruiting, procurement, finance, and enterprise engineering/IT and act as the point of contact for the team.
Manage the overall team information structure, communications, resources and documents, and forums for dissemination of information.
Manage short term logistics and long term strategic projects to ensure sufficient seating, storage, and lab space including when we need to expand to additional sites.
Manage the overall team budget including annual budget planning, quarterly forecasts and accruals, and clear understanding of actuals vs forecast. Also, ensure smooth creation of POs and contracts and alignment of all PO and invoice approvals with the budget.
Define and coordinate lab preventative maintenance, calibration, and safety plans for all equipment and auxiliary tools and ensure reliable supply inventory plans.
Coordinate lab build-out, equipment installation & upgrades.
Collaborate with the facilities team to address issues affecting current labs and expansion of lab and storage space as needed.
Audio lab or startup management experience.
2+ years of people management experience, specifically managing project, program, or operations managers or coordinators.
Experience building culture and community within a designated office and team environment.
Post graduate courses or degree in Science or Engineering.
