We are looking for an Audio Research System Architect to join our growing interdisciplinary team to drive integration of novel audio technologies into features that directly impact users of future AR and VR devices. In this position, you will collaborate closely with a cross-functional team of engineers, research scientists, product managers, and experience designers to ideate, architect, and implement systems which demonstrate the experiential value and product viability of novel audio technologies. You will drive technical interfaces with the product development organization to guide the advanced development activities with the understanding of future product constraints, and also transfer the system-level knowledge to the product counterparts for feature productization, leveraging your multi-disciplinary experience in acoustics, audio algorithms, embedded DSP, and product development.


Master’s degree in Acoustics, Audio Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering with 7+ years of industry experience in audio technology development, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Understanding of physical acoustics fundamentals relevant for consumer audio devices

Proficiency in DSP & ML fundamentals and concepts that are commonly encountered in real-time audio algorithms for speech enhancement application

Demonstrated experience of developing real-time audio applications targeting embedded digital signal processors and hardware accelerators

Demonstrated contribution to development of a consumer audio device from inception to production

Demonstrated experience influencing a cross-functional and inter-disciplinary team in scientific/engineering investigations


Represent Research Audio team’s perspective in cross-functional engagements with product teams on all technical matters relating to new audio features under development from Research Audio

Connect the target user experience of novel audio technologies to a high-level system architecture definition incorporating both hardware and software, with the goal of demonstrating the product viability of these technologies

Interface with product system architects to gain an intimate understanding of target product constraints, translate productization risks to specific engineering investigations, and align on potential paths for feature implementation

Oversee the development of proof-of-concept prototypes comprising hardware, DSP, and software subsystems

Specify and direct targeted investigations to discover the target and bounds of system-level key performance indicators (KPIs)

Combine the results of advanced development investigations into a functional requirement document that gets communicated to product partners as a reference for feature productization

Stay abreast of the maturity of technology portfolio under Research Audio, product ecosystem and technology roadmap under Reality Labs to strategically identify opportunities and make technical decisions for advanced development projects
