Our team innovates novel optical hardware for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality devices. We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team and work with a multidisciplinary group to develop advanced optical systems. We are specifically looking for a candidate with technology leadership experience and successful examples of innovating new designs, incubation and prototyping, and experience in pilot and scale up. The candidate should have strong foundational knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals, software tools for design and analytical modeling, manufacturing processes, and materials and their properties to explore creative solutions. The candidate will work with and provide leadership to a team of engineers and scientists focused on optical design, manufacture, assembly, and functionality of advanced optical systems.
This is primarily a mechanical design engineering role; however, the ideal candidate would also have a keen ability to adapt/learn, work collaboratively across fast-paced, multidisciplinary teams (i.e., with optical engineers, electrical engineers, software engineers, material scientists, physicists, technicians, etc.), and provide guidance and leadership to other mechanical engineers. We are looking for someone who is comfortable taking their designs all the way through detailed design, drawing generation, parts procurement, and hands-on assembly, integration, and test. We need someone who is well-versed in taking on high level tasks, determining what low-level steps need to be taken, and working in a self-guided fashion toward achieving the desired outcome.
Qualifications(岗位要求)
BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
10+ years of experience working on complex mechanical engineering designs from prototype to manufacture
Expert level experience in CAD design tools (SolidWorks or NX) for parts, assemblies, drawing generation, GD&T, and configuration management
Knowledge of manufacturing techniques (machining, 3D printing, sheet metal, injection molding, thermoforming, casting, etc.)
Experience with Finite Element Analysis and tools (Ansys, COMSOL, or other), including structural and thermal analysis
Experience in working with and providing leadership to cross-functional teams including Engineering, Product Design, Research, etc.
Demonstrated experience scaling novel manufacturing methods from low to high volumes
Experience with a wide scope of engineering materials: metals, plastics, composites, etc.
Experience mentoring and developing junior mechanical engineer
Experience working closely with third party vendors to develop system components and drive towards challenging requirements
Communication, interpersonal, and adaptability skills
Description(岗位职责)
Develop mechanical hardware designs, including initial concepts, early trades, sizing analyses, component selection, refinement of design details, hardware procurement, manufacture/assembly/integration, and performance/environment qualification testing
Drive mechanical engineering activities in a highly cross-functional team environment
Explore and pursue new designs that move the state-of-the-art forward
Generate thorough design documentation, including design review slides, analysis reports, fabrication & assembly drawings with specifications and tolerances, and assembly and test procedures
Design and implement complex mechanical assemblies meeting challenging performance criteria while being low-cost and manufacturable and deployable in volume
Design performance characterization and environmental qualification test setups, including both hardware design and test procedures
Incubate new technologies into research prototypes and research prototypes into pilot manufacturing
Work closely with external partners and vendors
Establish and refine product design process, best practices, and/or tools for the organization
Additional Requirements(额外要求)
M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Experience designing and manufacturing optical components and systems
Experience in precision mechanisms & motion control, motors, bearings, flexures, position sensing
Experience in environmental testing and qualification (thermal, vibration, vacuum systems, etc.)
Familiarity with VR/AR systems, wearable devices, biosensors, or equivalent
