Meta AR/VR Job | Applied Perception & Image Quality Research Manager
Job(岗位): Applied Perception & Image Quality Research Manager
Type(岗位类型): Computer Vision | Engineering, Hardware, Research
Citys(岗位城市): Redmond, WA
Date(发布日期): Before 2021-12-14
Summary(岗位介绍)
As the Applied Perception & Image Quality Research Manager in the Display & Optics team at Facebook Reality Labs, you will be responsible for leading the applied perception and image quality teams. The work and research that these teams undertake is critical to enabling the displays that deliver transformative AR/VR experiences to our customers. We are seeking a manager who has experience in AR/VR display technology paths and can work collaboratively across cross-functional teams to support system requirements development via research and human studies in a very ambiguous environment – while focused on execution and providing clear and effective communication to your team and across teams. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the intersection of perception science, display, optical, and system engineering, have experience in vision science, low-level visual processes, and psychophysics.
Qualifications(岗位要求)
Advanced Degree in psychology (vision science, perceptual psychology, human factors), optics, computational imaging, computer science (image processing, graphics, vision), biomedical engineering, or a related field with an emphasis on image quality, perceptual modeling, psychophysics, and/or metrics evaluating perceptual performance.
10+ years of experience in driving display performance via perception studies and/or image quality optimization algorithm development.
7+ years experience in leading, developing and managing technical teams, including performance management.
Familiarity with modern display technologies, subsystem interactions, perceptual tradeoffs, common display artifacts and mitigation strategies.
Knowledge of how display characteristics interact with visual encoding processes in the generation of visual artifacts.
Experience with standard image quality metrics and deriving new metrics for novel environments, use cases and/or display architectures and requirements flow down.
Experience in managing the trade-offs necessary to deliver consumer products with a significant display/optics component as shown by, for example, product launches, substantial patent portfolio, or a series of prototype systems.
Experience presenting to and influencing upper-level management and decision makers.
Proven interpersonal and organizational skills.
Experience self-directing in a fast-paced early product environment with limited oversight, and experience balancing time constraints against quality against resources.
Description(岗位职责)
Manage the Applied Perception and Image Quality teams.
Drive a research agenda and develop experimental and/or modeling approaches in display engineering to determine how novel displays, and/or optical systems can impact perceived image quality.
Work with cross-functional partners in research and product development (and the TPM team) to understand and prioritize perceptual needs.
Communicate the findings from modeling, psychophysics, & empirical experiments to help set target requirements for display systems in AR/VR.
Drive various external relationships (academic, research partners, human study contractors) to accelerate the collating of the required knowledge.
Work with internal partners to design and develop the data collection rigs required to collect data.
Work with the technology and PM teams to develop technology sub-system and full display/optics system PRDs.
Manage cross-functional relationships with the silicon, calibration and graphics teams to deliver optimal image quality.
Additional Requirements(额外要求)
PhD in psychology (vision science, perceptual psychology, human factors), optics, computational imaging, computer science (image processing, graphics, vision), biomedical engineering, or a related field with an emphasis on perceptual modeling, psychophysics, and/or metrics evaluating perceptual performance.
Academic background in spatio-temporal contrast sensitivity, low-level vision, color perception, retinal physiology and/or modeling.
7+ years experience in leading complex technical teams of signification scope, i.e. manager of managers.
Knowledge of the complete image processing pipeline, from capture through reproduction as evidenced by direct professional experience, publications and/or academic training.
Experience translating user experience and perceptual science targets into hardware.
Knowledge in hardware design and prototyping hardware systems to simulate issues with proposed and novel display and hardware architecture.
Technical understanding of modern graphics algorithms and pipelines (e.g. imaging pipelines, foveated and perceptually-driven rendering, realism in graphics).
Experience in working on team that ships product.
