As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Facebook, you will take a critical role in developing next generation AR Systems. You will become part of a team exploring new concepts through mechanical design and fast iterative prototyping. A wide range of approaches will be explored combining electrical, mechanical, optical, firmware, and software techniques. We want people who work well in teams, can brainstorm big ideas, work in new technology areas, are able to drive a concept into a prototype and then mature the design to high-volume consumer product solutions.
We are looking for someone with a productive mindset who can apply their mechanical engineering expertise to solve problems in creative, insightful ways. Our ideal candidate has a strong fundamental engineering background, prototyping skills, 3D CAD capability, and experience designing and manufacturing consumer technology products.
Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.
Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Experience in 3D design modeling (NX and/or SolidWorks) and physical prototyping
Knowledge of various manufacturing techniques & materials (metal fabrication, injection molding, fast prototyping, SMT, RFPC fabrication, etc.)
Experience interpreting experimental and analytical data
Experience in consumer electronics product development or manufacturing
Experience with mechanical and optics metrology devices such as CMM, OMM, interferometry
Drive Mechanical Engineering activities in a cross-functional hardware team
Model, build, test, and refine prototypes and characterization test systems
Apply rigorous engineering and tolerance techniques to high precision design requirements in the areas such as Optics, Mechanics, and Motion Control
Design components and jigs while taking into account a wide range of considerations such as manufacturability, material properties, reliability and functionality
Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a MS degree in Mechanical Engineering
Experience in opto-mechanical design and engineering
Knowledge of optics component mounting, interfaces, and adhesive bonding
Knowledge of materials and structural modeling/optimization
Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship
