Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) is a world leader in the design of virtual reality systems. We are currently seeking an innovative research intern with a strong background in Electroactive Polymer Actuators at our research location in Redmond, WA. This role will focus on the fabrication and characterization of dielectric polymer gel actuators. In particular, we welcome PhD students in engineering physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science or similar fields. Our internships are sixteen (16) to twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.
Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in the field of engineering physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science or similar fields.
Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.
1+ years experience in the field of electroactive polymer actuator.
Research next-generation electroactive polymers with an emphasis on dielectric polymer gel actuators.
Produce, process and characterize dielectric polymer gels (DPG).
Define clear performance metrics and benchmark developed DPG.
Manufacture and characterize an actuator from the selected DPG.
Synthesize research results to be published in top-tier journals and leading international conferences.
Hands-on experience with prototyping and characterization of soft actuators.
Hands-on experience with soft material processing and characterization techniques.
Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by first-authored publications.
Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op.
