Meta AR/VR Job | Research Scientist Intern, Body Capture, Reconstruction and Understanding (PhD)

The Reality Labs (RL) Research Team brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of AR and VR, which together will become as universal and essential as smartphones and personal computers are today. We are developing all the technologies needed to enable breakthrough AR glasses and VR headsets, including computer vision, graphics, body tracking, perception science, and true telepresence. The Virtual Humans team in Sausalito, CA, Redmond, WA and Zurich work on cutting-edge research and development focusing on virtual people and presence. We envision a world where people connect across vast distances so our roles focus on capturing, evaluating and modeling the full human body shape and motion. We are currently seeking innovative interns with a passion for technology to develop the next generation of virtual humans.

* Full body capture, understanding and reconstruction including dynamic deformations of soft tissues, cloth and hair
* Markerless motion capture, body shape inference, dense correspondence learning
* Neural representations and deep implicit models
* Multi-view stereo reconstruction, dynamic surface reconstruction, non-rigid registration
* Deep learning applied to image, depth and 3D data
* Realistic rendering, perceptual evaluation
Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in Computer Vision, Graphics, Machine Learning, Robotics, or related field.
Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.
Experience with computer vision, deep learning, 3D geometry and/or linear algebra.
2+ years of experience with C, C++, and/or Python.
Design and execution of algorithms.
Investigate, design and develop novel algorithms in areas such as body capture, tracking, reconstruction, semantics, generative models for clothed humans and deformable objects (soft tissue, clothes, hair).
Prototyping, building and analysis of experimental systems.
Collaboration with and support of other researchers across various disciplines.
Communication of research agenda, progress and results.
Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship.
2+ years of experience with one or more of the following areas: developing models for neural human reconstruction, human body learning, dynamic shape representation, numerical optimization, deep learning.
