Meta AR/VR Job | Optical Scientist – Display System

Job(岗位): Optical Scientist – Display System

Type(岗位类型): Hardware

Citys(岗位城市): Sunnyvale, CA | Redmond, WA

Date(发布日期): 2022-12-21

The Optical Scientist is responsible for developing novel optics & display solutions for Meta Reality Lab’s evolving AR products and will work across the organization to understand and influence the product roadmap. This person will need to be able to sort through conflicting and ambiguous goals in order to properly set scope and establish a coherent list of priorities that deliver the results best matched to product strategy, user experiences and roadmap or north star ambitions. They will work across Meta leadership, research, and the product pathfinding teams to drive at speed the development of AR display systems.

When moving beyond concept phases, the Optical Scientist will work with the various technology teams to develop the submodules that will support the display system constructs. This includes display development that incorporates the larger system, i.e., eye tracking, accommodation, and prescription correction – as well as the larger product framework – as fundamental from the start.

This also means supporting various product form factor and non-form factor prototypes that can get to full system integration earlier as opposed to development of single technological pillars that need to intersect later.

PhD degree in Engineering, Physics, Optics, Computer Science or related fields.

5+ years of experience in related system and/or optical design roles.

Experience in managing the trade-offs necessary to deliver consumer, industrial, or commercial products with a significant display/optics component.

Proven knowledge working with multi-disciplinary product & technical management roles to transition systems from the labs into product maturation.

Knowledge of optics including systems design and integration, imaging, illumination, radiometry and photometry, physical and geometric optics, statistics, and polarization.

Experience presenting to upper-level management and decision makers, and communicating the ‘story’ depth and/or breadth depending upon the need.

Experience in one or more system optimization and analysis tools, such as MATLAB, C++, or Java.

Experience collaborating across cross-functional teams, i.e. leadership, product managers, engineering, research, user experiences to deliver a balanced system.

Experience self-directing in a fast-paced environment with limited oversight, converting ambiguous needs into clear & measurable goals.

Work at the intersection of research, development and product in order to develop display systems & architectures for future AR products.

Work closely with product management and cross-functional teams to develop/influence architectures that support product roadmap and targeted experiences.

Work across research & technology teams and form external partnerships to develop display architectures that inherently support the product roadmap.

Take a display architecture from early concept development and trade studies to prototype builds, requirement development (PRD), and eventually development of a manufacturing path.

Clearly communicate the development path during all phases with cross functional partners and executive teams.

Up to 25% domestic and international travel.

Additional Requirements(额外要求)

10+ years of experience in research and/or development including knowledge in displays, sensors, cameras, machine learning, modeling and simulation, requirements development and flow down.

7+ years of experience in display focused system and/or optical design roles.

Experience with challenges associated with system level integration which encompasses display, optics, electronics, software, computer vision and platform development.

Experience with display calibration and system level metrology to stand up new display systems as well as associated algorithms and devices.

Experience with image quality metrics for quality display and identifying pitfalls present in new types of displays systems.

Experience in at least one of the following software frameworks or packages: Zemax, Code V, LightTools, FRED, MATLAB, Java, and/or C/C++.

Demonstrated experience translating user experience and perceptual science targets into hardware.

Experience transitioning from development projects into larger scale product launches.

Demonstrated experience identifying and partnering with outside companies in developing new manufacturing techniques across a broad range of display challenges.

Experience with design/manufacturing of small form factor display or imaging systems.
