The Reality Labs (RL) Research Team brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of AR and VR, which together will become as universal and essential as smartphones and personal computers are today. The Surreal Vision team is looking for the next generation of scientists and engineers to tackle the most ambitious problems in machine perception.
In this internship, you will not only work on the forefront research topics present in academia and industry, but beyond you will work with a team invested in building the complete stack from sensor and optics design to fundamental machine learning and computer vision algorithms to the applications driving LiveMaps and the Metaverse. Our working style is fast-paced, focused on rapid progress and audacious exploration of novel solutions for fundamental problems.
Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty four (24) weeks long and you have the option to start at various dates throughout the year.
Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in the domain of NLP or related field
Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Experience in Python, with other major languages (C++, Java) a plus
Research and/or work experience in machine learning, deep learning, and/or NLP
Develop novel state-of-the-art multimodal NLP algorithms and corresponding systems, leveraging various deep learning techniques
Contribute to research that can eventually be applied to Meta products and services and run on billions of media items every day
Based on the project, help analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of corresponding deployed algorithms
Collaborate with team members, all the way from prototyping in a notebook to potentially deploying at scale
Prior experience with deep learning frameworks
Extensive experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches
Comfort analyzing high-volume natural language and multimodal data from varying sources
Proven track record of achieving results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at workshops or top AI conferences such as ACL, NAACL, EMNLP, COLING, ICLR, NeurIPS or similar
Experience communicating complex research in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
A strong interest in theoretical and empirical research and for answering hard questions with research
Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
Ability to stay in touch with the literature of a particular domain and has the ability to reproduce results if needed
Prior experience in NLU, language representation learning, conversational AI, vision-language understanding, multimodal modeling, automatic image captioning, question answering, summarization, reasoning, sentiment analysis, representation learning, responsible AI, integrity or related domains
Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op
