The Sensors and Systems Research team is looking for emerging scientists and researchers with interest in novel image sensor architecture, camera system integration and computational imaging to push the envelope and explore what’s possible in our future AR/VR devices. We welcome PhD students across computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, applied physics, and related disciplines.

Our internships are twelve (12), to sixteen (16), or twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.


Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in the field of Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Optics, Computer Science, or related field.

2+ years research experience in one or more of the following: Image Sensor Design, Camera Development, or Computer Vision.

2+ years experience programming in C/Python/MATLAB.

Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.

Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.


Design, implement, and improve methods and algorithms used to characterize and calibrate image sensors, cameras, and illumination solutions.

Develop sensor and camera system models.

Build camera development board, evaluate and improve real-time image processing pipeline algorithms.

Perform characterization of custom sensors and the entire camera system.

Support design teams with camera firmware development for early evaluation of prototype sensors and system level testing.

Additional Requirements(额外要求)

Experience developing integrated custom cameras and sensors.

Working knowledge of imaging system simulations and evaluation of simulation results.

Design and debugging experience of embedded hardware and software, in camera or other imaging systems.

Experience working in an electro-optical lab and developing or integrating custom cameras and sensors.

Experience with different illumination sources and understanding of image quality metrics and image quality evaluation.

Familiarity with mobile imaging systems & module designs (image sensors, optics, mechanics, auto-focus, optical image stabilization, assembly processes, etc).

Understanding ISP data-flows and processing blocks and familiarity with modern imaging algorithms such as HDR, super resolution, image fusion, multi-camera registration, etc.

Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as CVPR, IEEE ISSCC or similar.

Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op.
