We are currently seeking innovative scientists with experience designing, modeling, and prototyping advanced optical systems for near-to-eye display applications. This is a full-time position and requires an advanced degree in optical engineering, physics, or similar, and a strong background in optical system design and innovation. Successful candidates must be comfortable working in a dynamic cross-functional team.
Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Masters degree or PhD in Optical Sciences, Physics, Electrical Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta. in or related degree.
Knowledge of optics including imaging, illumination, radiometry and colorimetry, physical and geometric optics, and polarization.
3+ years of experience in designing complex optical systems, imaging and/or non-imaging.
3+ years of experience with scientific programming languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python, and Mathematica).
3+ years of experience working with system-level prototyping work, including hands-on prototyping of bench-top optical components.
Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Develop novel concepts and technologies for next generation Near-Eye Displays (NEDs) and sensors
Design, model, optimization next-generation optics and displays
Implement proof-of-concept hardware prototypes that redefine the state-of-the-art in AR/MR
Evaluate and characterize image quality and other performance metrics of individual optical elements as well as optical systems
Engage cross-functionally with researchers and engineers to explore innovative concepts that advance the entire pipeline (hardware, software, integration, infrastructure and applications), and create compelling future AR/MR experiences
In depth understanding of geometrical optics, aberrations, optical design for imaging and non-imaging cases.
Experience in one or more optical design tools such as Zemax, CODE V, LightTools, FRED, or ASAP.
Experience in plastic lens fabrication (diamond turning, injection molding, etc.).
Understanding of sources (lasers and LED’s), spatial light modulators, diffractive optics, optical materials, and thin films optics.
Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as OSA, SPIE, IEEE, or SID.
Experience developing prototypes and collaborating in a team environment across a diverse set of disciplines including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, and Optics.
Experience working and communicating cross-functionally in a team environment.
