At Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design the hardware for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. The mission of the battery team is to power the devices that enable these experiences.

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Battery Algorithms Manager to build and lead a new team with a goal to develop solutions for battery algorithm development to improve run time, reduce charge time, improve performance across temperature and extend battery life. We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience in building teams, developing a long-term roadmap and strategy for the new organization, and executing on multiple programs.


3+ years of work experience in leading a team to build algorithms for battery management

5+ years of overall industry experience

Experience in the domain of battery algorithms design, firmware engineering and implementation on micro processors or custom silicon

Experience with Li-ion battery development and their interactions with product level requirements

Well-versed with software development for embedded systems

Experience with model-based design and creating control systems & models with MATLAB/Simulink

Understanding of physics based and empirical models for power management and battery management using industry standard tools

Experience with battery testing and characterization using cyclers, EIS, power supplies

Design of ecosystem components for algorithm development such as diagnostics, fault detection, telemetry, infield updates and analyzing large data sets

Experience with product launches and working to a schedule

Experience working across multiple domains including cell engineering, electrical engineering, software and validation as well as debug issues at the interface of different domains


Build a team of engineers to develop algorithms for battery management to address the unique challenges of AR/VR and wearable devices

Propose, develop, and implement battery algorithms to improve battery performance such as peak power handling capability, charge time, fast charge protocols, cycle life, and run time

Develop algorithmic solutions to predict and manage battery degradation mechanisms such as capacity fading, swelling, and thermal effects for indoor and outdoor applications

Utilize battery behavior and use cases to define requirements from cross functional partners such as cell engineering, validation, and system software teams

Work with cross functional partners to develop battery models to implement in the algorithm

Work closely with the validation team to rigorously test battery models, assumptions, algorithm accuracy & performance

Develop logging frameworks, metrics, and dashboards to understand field performance of the algorithms

Coordinate & work with engineers across multiple disciplines for timely completion of algorithm development

Collaborate with firmware, software, and quality assurance (QA) engineers to integrate algorithms into Android and other custom operating systems (OS)

Support timely communication with cross functional partners and internal stakeholders

Additional Requirements(额外要求)

M.S or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Controls Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Material Science

3+ years of experience in the field of BMS design

Experience with AI/ML based algorithms

Knowledge of control theory and its application to Li-ion battery modeling

Strong communication and personal management skills
