As a Sustaining Engineer Manager, you will lead a team of electrical and product design sustaining engineers to support Meta’s RL (Reality Lab) VR (virtual reality) headset product lines. The Sustaining Engineering Team owns post ramp qualifications, second source qualifications, quality and performance improvements, and cost reduction for VR devices at RL. You will lead the team to partner with other electrical and product design engineers during development, take over products as they reach maturity, and support them through end-of-life.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in electrical or mechanical design and have shipped consumer devices. Previous management experience is required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related fields.
3+ years experience of technical management relating to product design or sustaining.
7+ years of experience with electrical or product design engineering.
Working knowledge of product life cycle management, Design for Manufacturability (DFM), quality control, and regulatory requirements.
Experience working cross functionally, across all levels of the organization.
Manage day-to-day works of our sustaining team that provides support for the Reality Labs Virtual Reality headset product lines.
Own and advance sustaining engineering processes.
Take ownership of hardware projects from production ramp through end-of-life.
Develop and qualify hardware changes, including new components and design/process changes.
Participate in engineering reviews, with both cross-functional teams and external engineering partners.
Develop system test plans, including test methodology and coverage, to validate changes and ensure product reliability.
This role will require up to 10% travel.
MS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
Experience within the Consumer Electronics industry.
Experience with offshore manufacturing partners.
Experience with common subsystems, such as Power/Battery, Display/Camera, PCB/FPC.
Experience with 3D/2D, ECAD/MCAD tools.
