The Manufacturing Design Engineering (MDE) Team has the responsibility for evaluating technologies and identifying supply chain solutions that allow Tech Ops to deliver products to market at scale. Tech Ops Supply Chain seeks a Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) focused on manufacturing, process and supplier qualification. We are looking for an individual willing to work independently to accomplish bold things.
The role of a Mechanical MDE who is both technically proficient to work with the engineering design and Operations teams, but also experienced in supply chain and manufacturing to bring that hardware tooling/fixture, process and technology into mass production. Specific hardware development and tooling/fixture knowledge is required and the candidate must have demonstrated knowledge of tooling components and systems, understanding key factors in both the development, qualification, and manufacturing aspects of tooling products. Your role will be to act as the interface between the Tech Ops Engineering, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing teams to implement and execute comprehensive process and technical solutions for our products.
BS or MS degree in mechanical engineering or related field
1 + years of experience in Mechanical, specifically in technical and process development at NPI, technical problem solving, fixture manufacturing or Operation skills
Experience in conducting DOEs to drive process and data collection
Using statistical process control tool (JMP or Minitab) to analyze data from DOE, part qualification data (FAI, SPC, Cpk) and provide solutions and recommendations to Engineering Team for process improvement and process capabilities
Experience working with APAC Supply Chain vendors (especially in Mainland China)
Hands-on technical metal and plastic parts process manufacturing, i.e. knowledge of plastic injection molding, sheet metal stamping, die casting, fixture design and fabrication (must have), CNC machining (must have), welding process (laser, ultrasonic welding), bonding and glue dispensing, pad/silk screen, plastic enclosure painting, metal enclosure surface finishing (i.e. polishing, PVD, blasting, Anodization), Heat Staking, Film or PSA die cut and lamination, and sub-assembly processes
Experience below would be added advantage: Surface treatment process development (AR coating, hard coating, PVD, anodize and painting process), Secondary operations development of optical plastic part, AR/VR product development, Hands-on working on secondary operations for SUS, aluminum, magnesium injection molding, carbon fiber composites or ceramic
Able to write, read and communicate both English and Mandarin
Travel within China
Work directly commercial Team:identify the best supplier partners in APAC to meet product requirements from both technical perspective as well as supply chain and manufacturing considerations. During NPI conceptual design – work on process and manufacturing proposal, provide process flow simulation, manufacturing cycle time simulation, process and cost analysis
Work directly with Hardware Engineering Team (Product Design, Industrial Design): provide technical proposal, manufacturing solutions at Tier II secondary process operations (post tooling) from equipment selection, material selection, process recommendations, process set-ups and qualifications, manufacturability to mass-production with cost effectiveness. Process exploration for NPI program. Critical part features and review manufacturability of design. Make recommendations to modify part specifications and tolerances as necessary to adapt development processes for high volume production and support cost effective production
Work closely with Tooling Team ensure the tooling and process concept is manufacturable with secondary process Operations (i.e. extrusion or forging or MIM or sheet metal, etc)
Participate in core team weekly review to present Tier II secondary processes technical proposals to XFN and Exec to buy in.
Come up with Technical proposals during NPI conceptual phases that are manufacturable for mass production, cost effective and high yield
Review Tier II vendors’ DFM, develop fixture and processes, process qualifications including FAI, Cpk, Reliability, Production and Final Acceptance
Drive suppliers to optimize processes for cycle time reduction, automation, cost saving, LEAN manufacturing of the product
Interface with SQE to drive product cosmetic standard on volume manufacturing ramp with Industrial Design (ID) and Product Design
Responsible for MIP (Manufacturing & In-Process Plan) document control for each program throughout the whole process cycle (Proto to Mass Production) with vendor on our products
Travel to suppliers (APAC) within China to establish technical and manufacturing processes required during product development (Proto, EVT, DVT) and volume manufacturing ramp (PVT)
