At Meta Reality Labs Research we explore, innovate, and design novel research system prototypes for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer to join our team, whose mission is to work with a broad range of multidisciplinary researchers advancing the state-of-the-art of AR/VR. We are specifically looking for a candidate with experience integrating electrical systems, considering the broad range of hardware requirements, including display/camera/sensor integration, power supply design, high speed/density PCB design, signal integrity, component selection, and digital/analog board level circuitry within systems that contain FPGAs, Microprocessors, and ASICs.

The ideal candidate would be comfortable designing high-speed mixed signal circuit board and an expert in troubleshooting at the board and system level. They may have enough firmware skills to successfully bring boards up and get them to a proof-of-concept level of readiness, and the ability to work with a team of researchers with tolerance for a high degree of ambiguity. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.


BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.

Experience with schematic and board layout using Cadence OrCAD, Altium or equivalent.

Experience with use of bench test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and function generators.

Experience with low and high-speed digital communication interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, MIPI and USB SS.

5+ years industry experience directly contributing to product design and manufacturing process, involving the fabrication and assembly of Printed Circuit Boards, Flexible Printed Circuits, Rigid Flexible Printed Circuits, and mechanical systems integration within a concurrent environment.

Proficiency in Signal Integrity, including cabled interfaces.

Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.

Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.


Designing schematics, completing board layouts, assembling, testing, debugging, and integrating designs into electro-mechanical systems.

Collaborating in a team environment across engineering disciplines.

Transforming ambiguous requests and vendor reference designs into working custom solutions.

Incubating new technologies into research prototypes.

Drive tech roadmaps in collaboration with research scientists.

Familiarity with VR/AR systems or wearable technologies.

Experience designing portable electronic devices.

Experience in high density and/or thermally constrained designs.

Experience with HDI design and analog design.

Integration of systems including FPGAs, Microprocessors, Microcontrollers, and/or ASICs.
