The Device & Prototype Innovation Team focuses on developing and incubating next-generation Mixed Reality technologies for consumer, commercial, and public sector applications to enable more immersive and enriching experiences and differentiate Microsoft’s platform and services. Role & Opportunity

We are looking for a Sr. Electrical Engineer to focus on embedded systems and associated electrical system design for next generation hardware accessory products. A strong mix of technical breadth and depth will allow you to work cross-functionally with different disciplines (Industrial Design, Mechanical, Electrical, Thermal, Software and Firmware) to develop compelling innovative products. You will be part of a multidisciplinary group that will design and develop circuits and systems, select key strategic components work with a motivated global team to develop the entire product.

Qualifications(岗位要求)

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of technical engineering experience OR Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years of technical engineering experience OR Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) of technical engineering experience.
  • This position requires access to export-controlled commodities, technical data, technology, software, and services governed by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Due to contractual limitations and ITAR obligations associated with this role, U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, or protected person status under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3) is required.

Additional/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience OR Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and building electronics products with a focus on consumer and portable battery powered systems.
  • Experience in high speed digital design, SoC system design, design approaches to maximize signal integrity, PCB layout stack up and optimization, RF/EMI/ESD mitigation techniques, FPGA design, rechargeable and primary battery selection and management, and power distribution techniques of modern processors desired.
  • Hands-on design experience in analog/digital electronics and bring up: System-on-a-Chip processor selection and system design, Bluetooth radio integration, capacitive touch circuit integration, motion sensor selection and integration, haptic actuator driver selection and integration, and high efficiency DC/DC power supply design.
  • Experience and familiarity with high speed serial interfaces (USB 2/3/C, MIPI, PCIe) and low speed serial busses (I2C, SPI, I2S)
  • Experience in sensor technology application including imaging, Hall, IMU, proximity, magnetometer, ambient light sensor, ultrasonic transceiver, etc.
  • Design for manufacturing and test experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Basic programming/scripting skills to control prototype boards.
  • Strong problem solving and circuit debugging skills with a solid understanding of core engineering principles, fundamental circuit design, and analytical techniques is required.
  • Some domestic and international travel required
  • Experience with Cadence Schematic Capture and PCB Layout tools preferred.

Description(岗位职责)

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop digital and analog systems with an emphasis on embedded system based, low power designs.
  • Analyze the design with simulation tools and models (system power draw, SPICE/Analog simulation) to verify its conformance to the design requirements.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering, firmware, hardware verification, and many other engineering and design disciplines to optimize the overall system of the product from concept to completion in the factory
  • Work very closely with contractors, and engineering services to ensure that the product is developed on time with high quality and meets all regulatory (EMI, EMC) and reliability requirements.
  • Design, build and test rapid prototypes for evaluation of new product ideas or technology concepts.
  • Conducts design/debug investigations and support development, maintenance, failure analysis, and resolution activities.
  • Develop project documentation including specifications, schematic diagrams, PCB layouts, schedules and presentations to meet requirements and communicate the electrical design and its progress.
