Summary（岗位介绍）
As a Model Maker within the multidisciplinary Concept Design Team, you will employ your expertise in problem solving and model making to accelerate product development across Facebook’s hardware organization. You will collaborate with teams within Hardware Engineering, Research and Development, and Industrial Design. These projects cover a wide variety of technical challenges unique to Facebook’s hardware portfolio, including Oculus, Portal, and beyond. As the next stage of consumer hardware moves closer to the body, rapid soft element exploration has become exponentially more vital in creating human first technologies. This role requires expertise in molding and casting for use in prototype hardware informing early design decisions. Knowledge of silicone, polyurethanes, additive manufacturing and novel fabrication processes will be crucial in creating fast prototypes in all shapes and sizes. You will work throughout the hardware lifecycle with a particular focus on concept ideation and early-to-mid stage development.
You must be able to work with minimal guidance, demonstrate a high attention to detail, be partnership-oriented and possess strong problem-solving skills. You must be a self-starter, well-organized and have excellent communication skills. Our team is constantly growing and you will be relied upon to help define team direction and be motivated to improve the effectiveness of our tools and processes from each project to the next.
Qualifications（岗位要求）
3+ years of product model making or equivalent experience
Extensive experience with urethanes and silicones and the processes involved to mix, de-gas cast and cure with material understanding and a history of applying chemicals safely
Hands-on experience and knowledge of prototype development processes, including: rapid prototyping, 3D printing, CNC machining, molding, casting, electrical prototyping
Organized and experience helping to establish robust operational systems, inventory management and work effectively within a lab environment
Experience detailing, deadline driven, familiar with working in a team environment, and have interpersonal skills
Experience working in a dynamic and creative environment and is motivated to explore and bring new ideas to life. Experience working in a partnership with core members of the team
Experience working closely with and understanding technical requirements of how to prototype and assemble hardware
Description（岗位职责）
Collaborate with Industrial Design, Engineering and Research teams to identify and solve complex design and UX challenges, employing creative soft element applications and fabrication skills
You will partner with the Casting and Mold leads in creating and running 3D printed and traditional molds and casting a variety of silicones, resins and foams
Be curious, try new materials and develop new methods and explore new and novel ways to reach the goal
Responsible for executing core model making disciplines including high quality finishing, part preparation, scratch building, color mixing and applying a strong material knowledge
Responsible for finishing plastics and metals in finishes ranging from high polish to fine matte texture
Will be responsible to run multiple projects concurrently, running continuous part outputs to inform fast iterative design cycles
Leverage both internal and external manufacturing resources to produce deliverables to an appropriate level of fidelity
Design and finish cast prototypes to rigorous cosmetic/aesthetic requirements
Ability to execute multiple streams of work simultaneously and independently balance and prioritize project workload to ensure success against timeline constraints
Follows safety directives and best safety practices and techniques within the lab
Additional Requirements（额外要求）
Bachelor in Fine arts, Engineering, Design, Materials or relevant equivalent
5+ years of end-to-end integrated product development experience, including early-stage conceptual design, detailed design for manufacturing and assembly, late-stage mass production experience, overseas manufacturing and assembly
Understanding of Facebook products and technologies
Experience in NX CAD modeling system, and Teamcenter PDM/CAD experience (NX, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino, Materialise Magics, GrabCAD Print, 3D Sprint, mold flow simulation), including design of complex molding solutions
Silicone seaming/painting experience
Extensive adhesives knowledge
Direct experience Injection molding/CNC mold construction
Experience Manufacturing tooling, jigs and fixtures
Armature experience (Soldering, CNC, Wire, Ball and Socket)
High quality paint/finishing experience (3D prints, priming, powder coatings, precision parts)
