Oversee Academic Relations for FRL, including building and maintaining relationships with key Universities and building the capabilities in the Academic Relations team to meet the needs of FRL researchers.
Qualifications(岗位要求)
Bachelors degree.
10+ years experience with negotiating sponsored research contracts and establishing academic research collaborations.
Expertise of key terms in academic contracts and academic norms in the US.
5+ years management experience including recruiting staff, budget management, establishing systems to track the team’s work and scaling practices for a growing organization.
Description(岗位职责)
The manager will build and maintain academic contract templates and contracting playbook, and will oversee contract negotiations. The manager will ensure that contract templates continually meet the needs and strategies of the FRL researchers rather than researchers adapting to a single academic model.
Offer a wide range of capabilities and continually develop new academic research models and methods of engagement with Universities. Open calls for research proposals (RFPs). Third party partnerships for funding or running RFPs. Master and project specific sponsored research agreements that include a menu or IP and licensing options to meet the research teams IP strategy. Academic gifts and hardware donations. Internships and other mechanisms for student engagement.
Advise, issue-spot, propose strategies and execute academic engagement plans to support FRL research and ensure FRL products have a track record of responsible innovation and policy/communications messages are credible.
Serve as internal POC for academic relations issues such as scientific misconduct, publication issues or employment disputes that risk negative PR moments or reputational damage.
Actively engage with internal leadership to stay aligned on overall strategy and the evolving needs of the organization, as well as to provide visibility into ongoing projects and initiatives.
Maintain and actively participate in an Academic cross functional function across FB to ensure that the company is coordinated on academic relations, particularly academic contracting.
Advise researchers on review/approval processes for all matters relating to academic engagements (appointments, conflicts, publications, donations, Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements etc.). Review/approve publications for Policy and review/approve letters of support.
Stay informed on science policy and create workstreams when proposed changes to science policy may impact FRL’s interests, for example evaluate proposed changes to Bayh-Dole legislation.
Maintain a high number of cross functional relationships related to academics such as University recruiting, HRBP and CW HRBP for hiring interns or professors, legal (IP, employment law and patents), Policy and Communications.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with key Universities important to FRL researchers and to Facebook, Participate in and represent FRL in University-Industry professional associations.
Troubleshoot payment, invention disclosures, and other business issues that arise during an academic contract to ensure positive relationships with academic partners.
Additional Requirements(额外要求)
Experience with setting up complex, multi-party research collaborations.
Familiarity with academic contracting outside the US.
Established network of University contacts both inside and outside of the US.
Experience working in a University or non-profit research organization environment.
Technical literacy in one or more of FRL’s research areas.
