Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) is currently seeking an innovative research scientist intern with a passion for technology to develop next-generation imaging and sensing systems at our facility in Redmond, WA. This role is focused on the research and development of optical components and systems towards building advanced VR/AR systems. In particular, we welcome PhD students in optical science or engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or similar.
Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.
Qualifications(岗位要求)
Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in the field of Optical Science or Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
1+ years experience geometric, physical optics, integrated optics, silicon photonics, laser technologies, or micro-, nano-optics, metamaterials/metasurfaces, emphasizing modeling and hardware prototyping
Demonstrated ability in optical/photonic design and modeling (Zemax or similar, computational EM such as FDTD, FEM, and RCWA)
1+ years experience with experimental optics and conducting laboratory work (i.e., demonstrated ability to construct proof-of-concept systems and to evaluate performance)
2+ years experience with scientific programming languages (Matlab, Python, or similar) and GPU/CUDA computing
1+ years experience in research and application of optimization techniques (e.g., topology optimization, genetic algorithms, deep learning, inverse design, etc) for optical/photonic device designs
Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
Description(岗位职责)
Explore the application of one of the following – semiconductor laser sources for sensing technologies, nano/micro optics, or optical designs for imaging/sensing technologies.
Carry out research through modeling/simulations and prototyping to prove new concepts.
Collaborate with the larger team and contribute to the development of AR/VR products.

Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship
Experience in photonic integrated circuits, silicon photonics, and computational photonics
Experience in optical sensing including 3D sensing and LiDAR
Proven track record of achieving results as demonstrated by first-authored publications
Ability to communicate complex research in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
